RoHS: How to determine status
Many of our customers that export their product to Europe have asked us if our
parts are RoHS compliant. This is not always such an easy question to answer.
As Shakeproof has been around for so many years and, along the way, set the
standard for various fastener solutions, many distributors have come to use
our part numbers as universal. Whether they are actually purchasing the parts
direct from Shakeproof is often difficult, and sometimes impossible, for us
to know. This is one of the main reasons we do not list RoHS status on our
website – our part may be compliant but the actual supplier’s part
may not.
The best way to determine the status of your existing stock is to go direct to
the company that sold you the parts. If that happened to be a Shakeproof plant
or branch facility, contact the sales representative that assisted you with previous
purchases. Be prepared: They may ask you for the date(s) of your purchases and/or
the lot number(s) of the parts you have on hand. Understand that this is necessary
information if we are to accurately provide you with a status. If, however, you
buy the parts from a distributor, please contact them regarding RoHS compliancy.
We at Shakeproof have been very aggressive with working with our material and
finishing vendors in order to meet your RoHS needs. If you are uncertain if one
of our part numbers has changed as a result of this directive, request a quote
using the same part number as you have in the past or per our catalog/website.
Remember to be sure to stipulate that the part must be RoHS compliant. This will
ensure that the price and part number you are provided is for a design that will
be manufactured with the appropriate materials.
